Students put Duolingo on their phones, to practice French.

They identified formal and informal conversations. They did activity #1, p. 3 (choose the word that doesn't belong). We did a listening activity, #2 p. 3, (choose the correct response to a question or comment).  They wrote dialogues, #5 p. 4.

We talked about informal and formal language (TU and VOUS in French). We  practiced the vocabulary pp. 2-3. Students wrote sentences. We read through the dialogues and students translated the dialogues.

Students did a survey, exploring the new French 1 textbook: D'accord 1 (VHL).
They signed up for VHL accounts.

DEVOIRS:  Create a 4-fold-fan from the words and expressions on pp. 2-3 of leçon 1 in the text. Write 30 words.

New Students

If you are new to Vista Higher Learning, complete these steps:

Step 1 - Go to vhlcentral.com

Step 2 - Create an Account

  • Click the Create an account » link
  • In the "Login Information" section of the account creation page, enter a username of your choice.
  • Enter the email address you would like to associate with your account.
  • Enter and confirm a password of your choice.
  • In the "Personal Profile" section, enter your first and last name as you wish them to appear in your Instructor's roster.
  • Select the year of your birth from the drop down list.
  • Enter a student ID (optional).
  • In the "Security Information" section, provide the answer to a secret question, which may later be used to help you access your account if you forget your password.
  • After you enter all of the information, click "create an account."
  • Click "agree." (Before your account is created, you must agree to the terms and conditions of use policy.)

Step 3 - Select a School

  • Locate your school by typing your school’s name, Issaquah High School. To narrow the search results, add the city and state, Issaquah, WA , (include the country, if outside of the USA.) in which your school is located.
  • Click "find." If the terms you entered did not result in a successful search, follow the on-screen tips to revise your search.
  • Select your school from the list by clicking on its name.
  • Click "select school" to add the school to your account.
  • Look for a message at the top of the screen confirming you successfully added the school.

Step 4 - Select a Course/Class

  • From the list of available classes at your school for your textbook, look for Instructor "Legier" and the course "French 1 2018-2019" taught between 09/04/2018 and 06/28/2019. It should look like this:

  • Click the radio button for the course section "Fr 1 per 6." If more than one class is listed for your instructor, click the information icons in the class listings until you locate the section.
  • Click Save. You should see a confirmation that you successfully enrolled in your instructor's course.

We sang Champs-Élysées.  We learned the alphabet in French. Students played the fly-swatter game and QUIZLET Live to review greetings and class vocab. Students took the quiz on greetings and class vocab.  We watched the end of the video, Historic France.

Today we practiced our greetings and class vocabulary. Students had conversations with one another, saying "hi" and introducing themselves "Je m'appelle.....", and they asked how they were doing.
We played BINGO with greetings and class vocabulary.

We practiced the greetings and class vocabulary. Students played Around the World with this vocab.
They guessed the answers to facts about the World Cup and saw a video of highlights of France in the World Cup.

We practiced greetings. We read about the Latin connection between English and French, students then guessed French words that resemble English (cognates).  The students selected French names. We learned class vocabulary.

We listened to the song Champs-Élysées by Joe Dassin (the great boulevard in Paris).  Students practiced greetings in French.  They talked to their seat partners about why they are taking French class.  We read lists of French names. We watched a short video clip of Mimes (from the film Paris je t'aime).We discussed class information.
